We all like to be cared for and validated. It makes us feel good to receive a phone call or a card in the mail from a family member or friend, just saying "I'm thinking of you."
Imagine as you age...your social activitiy declines, your base of friends dwindles, you outlive your friends, and family, or you spend your days in a facility, and the only social contact you receive is the ever changing staff.
What joy we can all bring to the lives of seniors! Call or send a note to a older relative you haven't seen or talked to in awhile, check on an elderly neighbor, visit a nursing home and spend 30 minutes with a resident that doesn't receive visitors.
These small but impactful acts of concern can lift the spirits of an aging person more than you know. Guess what? It will also lift yours! Those small acts, that bring joy, can stay with someone for days, weeks, months, or even years.
I have seen, time and time again, a nursing home resident "brag" about a visit, or phone call. You should see the show and tell when they receive a card, flowers or a gift! Everyone that passes by and listens knows about it!!
Take time out of your very busy life to pass on some kindness. You will be glad you did!
